Open! Open! Open!
For a couple of years I have been making twirly skirts for Ashlyn and her friends and recently for Addie and her friends as well. I have given them as gifts at parties and they have always been well received. I have been asked several times to make them for others so I decided to take a GIANT leap of faith and open a little store.
I will be selling twirly skirts, twirly dresses, quilts, vintage home decor, hair pretties, boutique pants and yes even boy stuff! I will be adding new product all the time so please check back to see if there might be something you like!
For those of you that know me a little you know that my Dad passed away last year. Since then I have had a pretty rough time and have blogged very little. I want you to know that those of you that have stuck around and comment in my little box really do brighten my day and I am VERY thankful for you sticking around. It really is my goal to blog more but my kids do come first and foremost! So with said ...join me on twitter!! haha It's easy for me to check in on that and the immediate response is better than buying new shoes! We all like instant gratification right?!
Now onto the good stuff! Since I am opening my new store I am doing a giveaway! I will give away one twirly skirt from my new store!
You can get three entry's!
Tweet about my new store or giveaway and leave a comment with your twitter name!
Blog about my giveaway or store and leave a link where I can see it!
Visit my store and tell me what you like most!

Have a great day!

Welcome to the "Nook and Crafties"
We have a giant room in our basement that I used to use as my craft area. It was great to have a lot of space but it wasn't laid out well. Then my sister moved in with us and we gave her the room to have as her own. Which meant I had to move out. I had a TON of stuff to move into a small space that we had in between the stairs and the downstairs room.
It started out as a disaster. Just keepin' it real folks.

After: (Also keepin' it real) Target discontinued the knobs I was using so I am now waiting for one from a friend.

Before: I purchased this buffet and two old drawers for dirt cheap at my favorite store "The Vintage Co-op". I then refinished them with paint and scrapbook paper (Flirt by My Minds Eye).

After:

Yes, it is another pink room. No, my whole house isn't pink! Just Ashlyn's room and my Nook and Crafties. And Yes! My husband is awesome and doesn't care about my pink room.
In this room we added paint, bi-fold doors, re-drywalled the wall (it had a huge whole in it from taking a bathtub downstairs), and added trim.

What happens when I don't blog for a couple of months? Apparently I complete projects that I should have completed FOREVER ago. A while back Adam and I moved downstairs and we decided that Ash could have our old room. Although it was still pretty small it was a little bigger than her current room. We decided to make her new room her main Christmas present. So we have been busy!
We repainted, put down maple hardwood flooring, covered the horrible popcorn ceiling with bead board, put up new trim and new molding, put in a new door, found and refinished a vanity/dresser/bookcase, made the quilt/shams/pillows, found the perfect bed and many other "little things". This morning Ash ripped the wrapping paper off her door and all of the hard work paid off. She LOVED her new room and said it was "way prettier" than she thought it would be. So even though it may not be totally completed (we have a closet door on order and I have to make a rag rug to match) I am so happy to have almost finished something!
Without further ado here you go....
Before (WAY before. When we first moved in.)

Ash opening her "present".

The awesome glass door knob from Anthropologie.

Hope you enjoyed the little peek into Ash's new room. I will be trying to blog a little more regularly and if you are still around thank you!!!
Merry Christmas!

My first ever attempt at pillows and my first quilt :)

Ahslyn's favorite stuffies.

The new ceiling and her old fan.

The bottom of the curtains that took forever! I am going to add some daisies to the jars.

Abundant Apples
Around here it is apple season. I love apples. Really. Honey Crisp apples are my favorite and I think I have eaten at least one a day for a month. A honey crisp and a chai tea are heavenly in chilly weather.
One of our Fall traditions is to go to Greenbluff for the Fall festival and have pumpkin doughnuts (fresh and hot) and fresh pressed apple cider. Depending on the weather we pick apples or we just buy the pre-picked. This year is was freezing so we just grabbed some boxes of pre-picked. We get our pumpkins from grammas garden.

After the festivities, I have to get to work canning applesauce. There are many ways to make applesauce. I like seasonings and you can buy regular applesauce for cheap at the store. So, I made my own recipe and today I am going to share it with you.
Jenny's Scrumptious Applesauce
16 Large Apples (preferably JonaGold)
6-7 cups of water
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon ginger
2 teaspoons Almond Extract
Get a large stock pot to make you applesauce in. Peel, core and slice your apples and put them in the pot. You can slice them in large chunks as I have.
After all your apples are peeled and sliced put in six or seven cups of water. The water should come half way up your apples. Boil your apples and water until they are soft. Don't forget to stir them as they boil. If your apples start to smoosh easily with your spoon they are ready. Turn off your burner and move the stock pot off. Add sugar, cinnamon, ginger and almond extract. Stir. Take a potato masher and mash the apples. I like my sauce to be a little chunky, so just mash until it is how you like it. If it takes you longer than a minute you haven't let them boil long enough so just boil them some more.
At this point my husband and kids want to eat it; so I give them all a bowl full. After that I put it into quart size canning jars. I place them in a hot water bath canner and let them boil for 25 minutes. I get 10 quarts from this recipe. Make sure you are using Large apples. If you have smaller ones you will need to use more. Also, JonaGolds are them best for making applesauce.

Let me know if you try it and if you like it!

Sneaky Peeky
A couple of posts ago I showed you a few things in Addie's room. I am fervently working on completing it! This weekend i finished the curtains and the quilt top and backing. Tomorrow the quilt will go off to the quilters! Wahoo! Now I just need to make a sham and a few pillows!
Here is another peek before the big reveal...

Don't you just love aqua and red together? It just looks so fresh and vintagey to me.

PS. Do you tweet? I just started. Follow me I'm jenny_inthepnw.

Look what I Just Got!!

Wahoo! I just received this award from Heather. I love Heather. She is such a friendly happy person and every picture I have seen of her has a fantastic smile that just brightens your day. Plus, how can you not love someone who says this about you....." She scrapbooks, refinishes furniture, decorates her home with flair. She is my idol. Seriously." I was really touched Heather. Seriously.
So now I have to follow these rules. I hate rules so I may not follow them all.
1-Thank the person who nominated you for this award.
2-Copy the logo and place it on your blog.
3-Link to the person who nominated you for this award.
4-Name 7 things about yourself that people may not know.
5-Nominate 7 Kreativ Bloggers.
6-Post links to the 7 blogs you nominate.
7-Leave a comment on each of the blogs letting them know they've been nominated.
Seven things about me that you may not know......hmmmm.....I've done some other posts like this so I am not sure what I've got left. Let's see.
1) Fall is my favorite season. I love pumpkin EVERYTHING. And I love the colors of the season.
2) Boston is my favorite city ever. I love the feel of the city. It feels like it envelopes you.
3) I love picking and eating fruit fresh from the tree. My favorite is Honey Crisp Apples. If you haven't had a Honey Crisp Apple from Washington I am sorry.
4) I love to go fishing, hiking and camping. Yes I am outdoorsey even though I am girlie.
5) I can't stand it if my house smells funky. Ever since I got pregnant with Ashlyn I have had an overactive sense of smell so I normally have at least one candle going.
6) I want to open an Etsy store but I can't pick what I would love to sell and I am not sure it would go well or if I have enough time.
7) I still go on all the playground equipment with my kids. It will never get old.
Now for some Creative bloggers.
1) Rose is so sweet and she cracks me up with her love of Twilight. I can honestly say I knew her pre-Twilight. Although she might not remember when that existed!
2) If you haven't read Crap I've Made - do it. Great crafts and she's funny.
3) V & Co is amazing and I want to be her when I grow up. Seriously.
4) Rachel is amazing also. Truly. Check her out.
There are so many others out there but I think they might be to busy to appreciate this award.
Thanks again Heather!

Lovin' the $1 Spots
I am currently redecorating the girls' rooms. Those of you who know me know that I am a frugal Mcfrugalstien. And I love a bargain.
I always visit the dollar spots at Target and Michael's. Sometimes there is junk and sometimes I hit the jackpot. This time I really hit the jackpot. I found these cute METAL signs covered in glitter. I adore glitter. They were for Christmas but who cares about that part! They ended up working great in Adyson's room. The believe sign is silver. The pictures don't do this justice at all.
I purchased a paper mache heart there for around $1 and painted it and added scrapbooking letters I already had. I added some cute aqua glitter ribbon and viola a cute little sign for Addie's room!
Her room is red and aqua. I absolutely love the color combo. I am currently working on her quilt and curtains and will reveal all when I am done!
I also found these super cute pearl monograms in the $1 spot at the Micheal's. I purchased one for each of the girls to hang on their dressers. I just took more glitter ribbon and hung them on there.
I am also a lover of vintage stuff and go to as many "junk" sales around here as I can. A few weeks ago we had the Vintage Barn Sale and I scored this awesome dresser for Addie and this super cute stool. The dresser was about $140 and the stool was only $6. The stool already had the white ruffle but I added a little silver and red glitter ribbon to make it pop.

I can't wait until I finish!!
PS. When using glitter letters for scrapbooking or decorating spray them with hair spray before attaching them to the project. This will keep them from dusting your room with glitter and losing their sparkle.
